Why is there a discrepancy in the molecular weight of my target when analyzed by traditional western blot and Simple Western™?

The molecular weight reported by Simple Wesetern™ instruments like Jess™ is an "apparent" molecular weight as opposed to an "exact" molecular weight. The molecular weight of the target is estimated based on calibration to the protein ladder and internal standards. When testing a new antibody on a Simple Western™ platform, it is important to follow up with peak detection strategies (for example, ensure that the peak area of interest titrates appropriately with the antibody concentration).
