    Specificity / Sensitivity

Galectin-10 (F1Z5W) Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody recognizes endogenous levels of total galectin-10 protein.

    Species Reactivity:

    Human

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the carboxy terminus of human galectin-10 protein.

    Background

Galectin-10 is a lectin that is highly expressed in human basophils and eosinophils, where it can be found in the peripheral cytoplasm (1,2). Galectin-10 is not expressed in mice (3). In eosinophilic inflammatory conditions, including asthma and parasitic infections, galectin-10 can crystallize into structures called Charcot-Leyden crystals (CLCs) (2,4). CLCs themselves are associated with eosinophil extracellular trap cell death (EETosis), and they activate the NLRP3 inflammasome, resulting in IL-1β release and a local inflammatory environment (5,6). While CLCs induce an inflammatory response, soluble galectin-10 does not; consequently, CLCs represent a therapeutic target in eosinophilic asthma and allergy (7,8).
