Background

FGF-8 is a member of the large and diverse fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family of peptide growth factors. FGF-8 binds to receptor FGFR1 and functions as a signaling molecule that is involved in many important processes (1,2). FGF-8 is involved in the development of the forebrain and also plays a role in maxillofacial diseases (3,4). It regulates craniofacial structure formation including the teeth, palate, mandible, and salivary glands and decreased expression of FGF-8 results in malformations such as absence of molar teeth, failure to close the palate, and decreased mandible size (4).

Source / Purification

Recombinant human/mouse FGF-8 was expressed in E. coli and is supplied in a lyophilized form.

Bioactivity

The bioactivity of recombinant h/mFGF-8 was determined in an NR6R-3T3 cell proliferation assay. The ED50 of each lot is less than or equal to 150 ng/mL.
